His current research includes studying the metabolic effects of obesity and the effects of interventions (e.g., exercise on glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity in obese adolescents as a prerequisite in defining strategies for preventing insulin resistance and impaired glucose metabolism), determining the best treatment options for children with type 2 diabetes, and exploring the metabolic adaptation to lactation. In addition, he provides the didactic structure and mentoring for M.D. fellows who are committed to academic careers in pediatric diabetes research.
